Conscience Before the Bang

God hovered in the almost near darkness of pre-time, surrounded by the shimmering glow of countless electrons, neutrons, protons, quarks floating around him. He waved his hands gently and with purpose to build the universe.
“That will be a galaxy.” as he clumps some together. He repeats this for a billion years, creating the templates for every galaxy that will ever exit.
“That configuration will be a planet, that one a comet, that one an asteroid, and that one a sun to give them all light.” He continues for another billion years, building, creating.
For what would be an uncountable number of years he builds the foundation for everything from algae to oxygen, a million kinds of beetle, a trillion kinds of plants.
It came time to create a walking, talking copy of himself.
“Time to make the humans.” He worked tirelessly for centuries, millennium, ages, epochs, eras, eons, gigaannums (look it up). Finally he had them designed. There were so many variables, they were complicated, interesting, built to last.
“These shall never believe in me. They will live their lives with no promise of eternity. They will know love and compassion and the free will to make their own choices with one limitation, they will never destroy another in my name or be full of hate for another.”
“These shall be the Christians, and among them will be many variations so that their ideas and stories of me will add diversity to their lives, challenge them to learn to work together to survive and thrive. They will know love and compassion and the free will to make their own choices with one limitation, they will never destroy another in my name or be full of hate for another.”
“These shall construct stories around other humans or creatures who represent me, and these shall conclude that their thoughts or feelings become their higher power. They will know love and compassion and the free will to make their own choices with one limitation, they will never destroy another in my name or be full of hate for another.”
“Together they will discuss my existence, my influence. They shall bring balance to their difficult lives with their studies and evaluations of what or who I am, and all come to accept one another’s views and through their history will learn more about love and compassion.”
“Over here I will create those who shall infiltrate each of these groups with a belief in me that is so strong, so devoted that they are willing to destroy, to kill, to annihilate the others. They will have charisma and charm and the power to influence those around them. They will bring war and death and fear among and between each of their respective groups. They will have free will but it will be dictated only by their complete and undeniable devotion to me, not by their love or compassion for their fellow humans.”
A voice comes from the darkness. “That can’t be a good idea.”
“Who are you? I am alone, that is why I am creating this universe. It will be a place of wonder and amazement for those who live in it and for me to watch over and care for in my eternal existence.”
“I’m your conscience. I’m just here to say that all those other humans are an exceptional idea. They can be different but all worship you in their own ways, or not at all. That’s a good touch by the way, very selfless of you. They can thrive and be a shining example of your goodness. The thing is, that last group, the ones filled with hate for others in your name. It doesn’t really make sense. You are giving them all that free will you have always been so devoted too, but to create some of them to create suffering and pain, well, it really isn’t logical. What is the point? I think I am being reasonable to point this out, you know, now before you set the whole thing in motion. I say go with all those others, but not that last group. Make them so devoted to you and your goodness that they bring more compassion and love to the universe than even you thought was possible. You do have the whole thing planned out, so you already know the ending of their story, but it would be a good way to make it more interesting while you watch over them.”
God began to think for a brief moment, and then began to laugh. For 100,000,000 years he laughed and finally was left with only a hint of a smile on his face.
“For a minute you almost had me, but you and I both know……..I have no conscience.”
He took a deep breath, moving with decisive virulence, and with one wave of his cloaked arms …… BANG!!
